BT has paid $2 billion to increase its stake in Spanish mobile operator, Airtel, by 16.28 per cent to 34.08 per cent.
The move may lead another Airtel shareholder, Airtouch Communications, which is in the process of being acquired by the UK?s Vodafone, to exercise its right to buy some of BT?s new share, however.
