Cabletron has extended its ATM product line with an ATM switch for workgroup and Lan backbone connectivity.
The Smartcell ZX-250 family of ATM switches supports transfer rates of 2.5Gbps. The range also features, at the high end, the MMAC-Plus SmartCell Switch, a high capacity switch for large enterprise and carrier markets, scalable from 5.4Gbps to 75.6Gbps.
The range is supported by Securefast Smartlane Services, a package of integrated ATM features for Cabletron?s Securefast Virtual Networking Services.
The MMAC-Plus switch sits on the chassis? Cell Transfer Matrix backplane. The chassis can be configured to support up to 14 5.4Gbps ATM switch modules. A fully configured MMAC-Plus provides up to 224 ports of ATM connectivity per chassis.
Processing and management capabilities are also available on each module. Customer shipments of the MMAC-Plus Smartcell Switch will begin in the first quarter of 1997 and is priced at $4,000 per port.
