As reported last week the Lycos UK portal has launched a ecommerce program that mixes search engine technology with advertising.
Called Banner Buy, it allows consumers to buy directly from the banner adverts that appear on the page with search results. Using a technology called Keyword Inserted Text Integration (Kiti) that ties in a search with advertising, a consumer types a word into the Lycos search bar and a banner ad comes up alongside the search results.
Clicking on the ad opens another Window from where the product is bought via a Lycos operated ordering service. A company buys the rights to a word related to its products for a period of time.
?It opens ecommerce to any company, even the little corner shop,? said a Lycos spokesperson. Banner Buy is available from #50 per thousand views.
The service is currently being piloted with Freemans and this season?s hottest toy, the Furby, a talking cuddly toy.
