Lotus is to launch Smartsuite 97 in the US amid a fanfare of razzmatazz on Tuesday, will involving a Harley-Davidson motorbike and sailboards. Under the slogan 'A new way to work', the launch will involve star prizes and be the biggest promotion to come out of the company since it was acquired by IBM.
Lotus said at its Lotus Sphere conference (see earlier coverage of Smartsuite) that it planned to beef up its marketing and promotions. Arch rival Novell, at its Brainshare conference this week, said it would position its products, including the Groupwise groupware package, more strongly against Lotus in future, in terms of marketing.
