Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom have cemented their long time collaboration, each buying a two per cent stake in the other.
In addition, the companies will pool some resources in research and development, multimedia, IT, and phone cards.
According to a joint statement: "These decisions form the basis for both carriers to intensify their partnership in Europe in order to work closer together in European markets. Both operators cooperate in broadening their presence and will create further local joint ventures."
They are already involved in the Global One European alliance, and set up Metro Holdings with Energis to build networks in key UK cities.
