A hacking attack on service provider Webcom brought down 3,000 Web sites across the US last weekend. Santa Cruz-based Webcom specialises in assisting other firms in setting up sites and then hosts them. It was shut down for 40 hours from 12.20 AM on Saturday. The origin of the hacking has been traced to Vancouver, but the identity of the hacker is unknown.
