IBM said yesterday that it had completed the acquisition of Australian web content management software firm Presence Online Pty, which trades under the name Aptrix. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Big Blue claimed that the buy out will strengthen its Lotus portfolio with improved web content management software.
This will allow users to collaborate on assembling, approving and deploying content to portals or websites.
Aptrix technology will be integrated into IBM's Lotus Workplace Content Development offering, designed to accelerate the development and delivery of information and simplify content management by combining portal, collaboration and content technology onto a single platform.
The product will be targeted at companies that need to create, publish, manage and archive web-based content within a corporate intranet, extranet and internet environment.
"The Lotus Workplace strategy is designed to blend Lotus collaborative solutions with IBM WebSphere Portal and DB2 Content Manager technology to give our customers a dynamic, cost-effective, and integrated platform that can be designed to fit specific industry or business needs," said Ambuj Goyal, general manager for Lotus Software at IBM Software Group.
"The addition of Aptrix's web content management technology will help our customers tailor their collaborative infrastructure as they move towards an on-demand computing environment."
Under the terms of the acquisition Aptrix's employees and operations, including offices in London and Massachusetts, will be integrated with IBM Software Group's Lotus business unit.
IBM anticipates that the Aptrix technology will soon come to market under the newly announced Lotus Workplace portfolio.
