The head of Apple?s channel sales arm has resigned only weeks after Apple decided to start selling directly via the Web.
Channel and sales development vice president Greg Rhine has walked out just five days after marketing executive VP Guerrino De Luca. The latest in a stream of senior managers to quit, Rhine left a few weeks after Apple dealers revealed that the vendor will begin selling low end systems directly via a Web site.
Apple would only say Rhine left for personal reasons but sources said his decision must be linked to recent redundancies, resignations and strategic moves at the company.
Mitch Mandich, formerly senior VP of Apple Americas, will run the channel division. Last week Apple admitted more redundancies will soon follow the 4,100 lay offs made in the last 18 months.
