Global electronics retailer Best Buy announced today that it is to open its first UK store in Thurrock, Essex, in May, in a move which could provide more options for small businesses and home workers.
The company will then open two more stores in Southampton and the West Midlands in June, with the aim of establishing a nationwide chain by 2021.
Best Buy said its Thurrock store will showcase the finest affordable and premium home theatre and audio available in the UK, as well as the latest technology across a range of other products including computers, mobile phones, home appliances, and fixed and mobile broadband.
The company said customers will also benefit from its Geek Squad consultation and installation service, which works in partnership with AV installation specialist SMC.
Best Buy said it stood out from the competion because its Blueshirt and Geek Squad advisers do not work on commission so that they only offer impartial advice. The company also offers 24-hour technical support and a system for booking in-store consultations.
“We’re here to make buying technology simple, exciting and tailored to each of our customers," said Paul Antoniadis, chief executive of Best Buy Branded Operations.
