US Vars are abandoning ALR servers in droves because Gateway will sell the machines direct but the UK arm of the company said there are no plans to replicate that model here.
Genevieve Ortegon, a VP of marketing at ALR in its Irvine office, admitted yesterday that it was hard to keep Vars in tow given the decision.
But Julian Neath, MD of ALR UK, said: ?I acknowledge the fact there?s an uphill struggle to convince Vars. But we have no intention in the foreseeable future of introducing this model into the UK.?
A source at ALR US told the VNU Newswire: ?It was a foregone conclusion that Gateway 2000 would sell our servers direct. They reciprocate by giving us their low end machines. This is only happening in the US at the moment but it will happen in the UK, probably in the first quarter of next year.?
ALR UK distributes through Norwood Adam and Northamber, neither of which were available for comment at press time.
