Sybase plans to introduce row-level locking features into version 11.9 of its Adaptive Server database in February. The lack of this technology has cost the database supplier business over the years, particularly because applications provided by suppliers such as SAP were unable to run on the database, which supported page level locking. Sybase had originally intended to add row-level locking support by the end of next year (see Newswire 28 August, 1997) due to demand from its customer base.
