BT is offering free phone calls to Sainsbury, Barclaycard and Texaco customers in a bid to ward off the threat posed by those cable companies that offer significantly cheaper call rates than the privatised monopoly.
BT TalkTime costs calls at standard weekend rates, and the bills are picked up respective retailers via their inhouse promotion schemes and loyalty cards. Customers collect call credits and send proof of purchase to BT, which should deduct these costs from bills.
More details will be available on July 4, Independence Day, when BT launches a nationwide ad campaign.
