Available in November, Hyperion Essebase 6 allows companies to judge business performance by analysing the mass of financial transactions generated by enterprise software. New features include forecasting and speedier calculations. Hyperion claims the new version can reduce the time taken to load data by 30%. The market for analytic applications has shown strong growth over the last year. But unlike arch-rival Comshare - which targets medium-sized companies - Hyperion has remained true to its blue-chip client base. Ian MacDonald, Hyperion's director of product marketing for Europe, admitted the complexity of analytic software had lowered its profile compared to software for customer relationship management and e-commerce. In response Hyperion will promote Essbase as a database, which can analyse customer buying patterns and the profitability of products sold over the Web. 'There's been an increase in CRM-type applications but we haven't seen analytic applications based on this data. Now our customers are demanding it,' said MacDonald. He added that Hyperion was talking to major CRM and e-commerce vendors over partnership deals and aims to add CRM and e-business applications to its Essbase package within the next six months.
