Cisco is to license software to manufacturers of network access devices, such as Internet phones, fax machines, cable modems, network computers, and set-top boxes, under a programme called Cisco Net Works.
Among the first licensees are Sony and Samsung, which will use Cisco technology in their cable modems.
Licensees will be able to display the Cisco Net Works logo on their products, as well as receiving product development support.
Cisco software featured in the programme includes a range of TCP/IP stack technology to enable devices to access IP networks.
