Data has overtaken voice on BT domestic networks, the telecommunications giant revealed last week. Growth in Email and Ecommerce mean data has overtaken more traditional communication for the first time. Bill Cockburn, BT's UK managing director, claimed 300,000 Web pages are added to the Internet every week, with a new site appearing in Britain every two seconds.
He predicted that the #30 billion communications market, which includes conventional and mobile phones, Ecommerce and multimedia would double in the next five years. During the next few years BT's entire voice network will be replaced by a system running on Internet technology.
