Motorola has announced that it will offer classic Atari games on its mobile phones.
The company has teamed up with iFone, an entertainment content provider for mobile phones and wireless devices, to offer some of the all-time greatest console games on the small screen, including Asteroids, Pong, Breakout and Centipede.
"Atari games are known and loved by players of all ages," said Juan Montes, vice president of technology and content solutions at Motorola.
Customers will be able to download the games from iFone, with trials in Europe on some Motorola handsets scheduled for next month.
iFone's Java games will be available via all of Motorola's network operators, wireless portals and retail partners, the company said.
A selection of Motorola handsets will also have the games embedded so that customers worldwide will be able to sample the entire iFone catalogue of titles, Montes added.
"As the industry produces more Java enabled handsets, we are creating a compelling Atari gaming experience wirelessly, particularly as these games are well suited for Java devices," he said.
