A Google executive has claimed that the company is currently activating 300,000 new Android handsets every day.
News of the activation mark comes just months after Android activations hit the 200,000 user per day milestone, an achievement announced in August by Google chief executive Eric Schmidt.
Android devices are now among the most popular on the market, smashing sales records for vendors such as HTC and Samsung.
Android was named in November as the top smartphone platform in the US, with analysts estimating the company's market share at more than 43 per cent.
The platform has also seen heavy use by those who own the handsets. A recent report from network management firm Arieso suggested that Android users are far more active online, submitting and receiving more data than users of any other mobile operating system.
However, Android is under sustained legal attack by Oracle and others.
