A new network infrastructure will save Thomas Cook over a million pounds a year, and allow the company to use more advanced multimedia applications.
The network has been built by BT Data Networks and links the travel company's headquarters, four call centres, two data centres and offices at 17 UK airports.
Thomas Cook has upgraded its 250-site shop network from 64Kbps to 256Kbps ADSL connections, and installed a new ATM wide area network at the company's headquarters.
The shops use an ultra-thin client legacy system called RIO for booking and ordering holidays.
Current bandwidth demands at shops is very light, but Thomas Cook had more data-heavy future applications in mind when specifying the network.
"Our two main goals were to increase our available bandwidth and reduce our costs," said Carl Dawson, IT director at the travel company.
"We don't require much bandwidth just yet, but in the future we want to host a whole range of multimedia services for customers.
"As for reducing costs we found frame relay very expensive when compared to broadband and will save over a million pounds each year."
The project got board approval at the end of the last year and finishes this week.
