IBM will tomorrow unveil a new range of colourful laptops, together with a new embedded security chip aimed at protecting users buying online.
As previously reported by VNU Newswire, (see Newswire 10 September) the company will launch a range of laptops with clip on colour fronts, similar to Nokia's interchangeable mobile phone covers.
At the same time, IBM will launch a security chip which, when embedded within computer hardware, is designed to provide extra security for users conducting activities such as ecommerce transactions.
IBM's PC 300PL desktop is expected to be the first product to feature the new chip, which will eventually be incorporated into the company's entire range, according to IBM sources.
The chip includes features such as encryption and digital signatures and the company is hoping it will become an industry standard for desktop security.
