The US is one step closer to relaxing the rules governing the export of encryption technology, as the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee approved a key bill.
The Security and Freedom through Encryption Act (Safe) bill allows ?any person within any state to use any encryption regardless of the encryption algorthim selected, encyption key chosen, or implementation technique or medium used.?
The bill will now be referred to the House Interational Relations Committee.
Last week, US officals decided to give free passage to encryption programs specifically developed for financial transactions. US companies will be able to export any kind of encryption to any bank as long as it is used for legitimate, internal bank functions.
