A UK developed tool is threatening to turn the online analytical processing market on its head.
Codenamed Diogenes, the tool presents a novel approach to business analysis. Diogenes asks questions, probes management assumptions and challenges users to think for themselves.
Harry Stottle, group marketing manager at developer Softratesse, said: "This product won't just challenge users, it is likely to change the face of business itself."
Not only will Diogenes users be forced to think for themselves, but the tool will also react to slow or clumsy usage by freezing up or crashing the system.
A UK psychologist involved in the development of Diogenes said: "Humans only learn through punishment or reward, so they become lazy using computers because they know they won't be judged. Diogenes dispenses with that security blanket."
Analyst Clive Longbottom said: "The impact will be massive, as users question not just their own processes, but those prescribed by the management and IT consultants."
Diogenes was a Greek philosopher who protested against what he thought of as a corrupt society. A working prototype of Diogenes will ship today (1 April).
