European telecomms company Esprit Telecom is investing #500,000 over three years expanding its network and data services offering around the Thames Valley region.
It will boost its network from Slough and Reading to include Croydon, Woking, Guildford, Hook and Basingstoke. It has also taken its first steps in offering services to the UK?s major cities including Birmingham and Manchester.
Esprit?s London to Thames Valley high-speed network will be managed by Fibernet?s Tanet 155 system. Tanet is the UK?s first nationwide high-speed communications service providing data links at rates of up to 622Mbps. Esprit will control and manage its part of the fibre optic network from its network control centre in London and its secondary network management centre in Reading. Fibernet will manage the service from its London Command and Control Centre.
The latest expansion by Esprit is part of its bid to service major cities around the UK. It recently raised $50 million after it offered its initial public offering on Nasdaq and Easdaq. The proceeds will fund further expansion of its European network until the end of 1998. Esprit offers services around the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Ireland.
Esprit recently published a request for proposal to build two submarine cable systems to link its UK offices to France and the Netherlands.
