In an attempt to draw public attention to the benefits of solid ink technology Tektronix has released a "Designer Edition" of its Phaser 840 solid ink colour printer. With a translucent blue and white casing, the 840 is designed to mimic the Apple iMac, although the device is compatible with both PCs and Macs. The initial production run will be limited to 3,000 units but if demand is sufficient more of the devices will be built. "This machine is an attention getter," a company spokesman said. "We want people to notice the printer because of its striking design." The Phaser 820 Designer Edition is available now at a price of £3,995.
