Netmanage is to acquire troubled software vendor FTP Software in a deal worth $77.5 million (#27 million). The two companies have overlapping product ranges covering PC-to-host connectivity, connecting Windows and DOS machines to Unix, AS/400, Digital VMS and IBM mainframes. FTP also has network management tools and an IPv6 communications suite, and Netmanage supplies support tools. Both companies have seen declining sales in their markets, although Netmanage has managed to show profits recently after scoring a deal with Intel for remote access software for Intel's video conferencing packages.
