Comdex Spring: Play Inc launches first Windows 98 add-on
by Dominique Deckmyn in Chicago
Play Inc., from Rancho Cordova, California, didn?t wait until Windows 98 was on the shelves to launch an add-on, introducing Gizmos 98 at the Comdex Spring show in Chicago today.
The package, priced at $49.95, adds some utilities to Windows, as well as ?improving? on some Windows components. The improvements are mainly visual. For instance, Play Inc. developed a set of flashy looking calculators (including a scientific calculator) and clocks to replace the ?boring? originals. There is even an enhanced version of Patience, with 3D effects.
Gizmos 98 offers a presentation tool oriented towards the home user - it can combine still pictures with graphics and sound into a slide show. More business oriented utilities include file encryption and a permanent file remover. Play Inc. fills out its offering with a picture viewer and organiser and a set of screen savers.
Gizmos 98 will also run on Windows 95. It will be available this summer.
Play Inc. also introduced a low priced video camera for Internet videoconferencing. The Spacecam Videophone has a list price of $139 and connects to a PC's parallel port.
