Strategic business intelligence vendor Cognos has announced Cognos PowerPlay 6.0, which it claims is the world's most widely deployed online analytical processing (OLAP) application. PowerPlay 6.0 is scheduled for customer testing in the summer. New features for both the Web and client versions include enhanced reporting features, an ability to handle larger data sources, shorter build times for cubes and deployment advances such as multiple currency conversion and calculated categories that can be stored in PowerPlay's multidimensional PowerCube. PowerPlay 6.0 Client will be available for Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT. PowerPlay Server Web Edition 6.0 will be available for HP/UX, Sun Solaris and IBM AIX, and Windows NT. PowerPlay Server Web Edition enters customer testing now, and is expected to ship in July. PowerPlay 6.0 Client is expected to ship in September.
