US Robotics and IBM are being sued for patent infringement by General Patent Corporation (GPC) International which accuses them of infringing patents covering PC card modems and other peripheral devices.
GPC said the companies have used technologies for converting telephone signals into data in modems without permission or consultation and will pursue the infringement on behalf of the developers it represents.
David Fink, counsel acting on behalf of the plaintiff, suggested other companies might be involved in the case but declined to give details.
