A cheeky marketing-driven ploy by Netscape has seen the company release an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer that allows the Microsoft browser to interact more closely with Netscape's portal site Netcenter, providing the functions that Communicator users already enjoy, such as Smart Browsing and the What's Related button. Netcenter program manager Ken Hickman said: "It makes sense to extend the reach of Netcenter to all of your audience." Data General to maintain DG-UX, SCO Unixware and NT Data General has committed to maintain three operating systems, DG-UX, SCO UnixWare and NT, into the next millenium. The vendor will this month announce plans to release Aviion servers based on Intel's Merced IA-64 processor supporting all three operating systems with fibre channel storage from sister-company Clariion. Third generation, 64-node, NUMA servers will be announced on 20 October. The most scaleable NUMA hardware at the moment supports 32 processors in a single module.
