Information provider Dialog Corporation, the result of the merger of Maid and Knight Ridder, is to invest #36m in integrating and re-developing its databases that hold over 20 billion pages of data, and in fibre-optic communications links across the Atlantic to improve speed and security of access by its customers.
The project is likely to take 18 months to complete. Maid had 5,000 subscribers accessing information via the Internet while Knight Ridder mostly had proprietary access methods, but it is thought that in future all information access will be by using an Internet browser over telephone or leased line.
