Internet commerce provider Verifone has announced plans to ship its VPOS Payment Server software for processing credit card transactions on the Net, early in the new year.
The new server software will link up with Internet gateways in financial institutions, enabling merchants to process online credit card transactions on a server that is separate from their existing commerce server.
Installing the server is a straightforward process, the company claims, and users will be able to form a complete standalone payment processing system by combining the new payment server with Verifone's VPOS merchant software and either Netscape?s Enterprise Server 2.0 or Oracle?s Web Server 2.0.
The software runs on Windows NT 4.0 and will be available to merchants through supporting financial institutions.
