Microsoft chief Bill Gates finally admitted what industry watchers have assumed for months - that NT 5.0 will not ship in the first half of 1998 as promised.
Gates said at the Comdex show yesterday that the second beta of NT 5.0 will be released in the first half of next year, but would not set a date for the final shipment nor give reasons for the delay.
Some attendees questioned whether Microsoft would be able to get such a complex piece of software ready in time for release at any time in the next year.
