Red Hat has released JBoss Enterprise Business Rules Management System (BRMS) version 5.1.
The company said that the update allows the JBoss Enterprise Middleware platform to better manage and change rules which can determine behaviour in enterprise applications.
"Business rules systems are critical for businesses to retain their competitive edge by making active decisions regarding business events as they occur," said Red Hat middleware vice president Craig Muzilla.
"The functionality of this architecture allows a business to quickly change the underlying rules that govern such features as real-time insurance quotes, automatic discounts, linked frequent buyer programmes and medical health records safeguards."
The 5.1 update also offers a technology preview of complex events processing capabilities for the platform, the firm said.
The package features reporting tools which allow developers and auditors to view and manage business rules being used within an application.
