Platinum Technologies has finally announced the first of its products to be integrated under its long delayed Platinum Open Enterprise Management Services (Poems) architecture.
But, while it expects the first nine 'core' database and system management offerings, which have been renamed Provision, to move into limited availability by November, the software supplier is still unable to provide a date for general shipment.
Provision moved into beta a couple of months ago (see VNU Newswire 4 June, 1997), but the integrated product set will be at least two years late by the time it appears on the market.
Andrew Filipowski, Platinum?s chief executive, had originally promised in May 1995 that the disparate product line, patched together from over 40 acquisitions, would be integrated under Poems within a year.
Chip McAvoy, senior executive at Platinum, said: ?We may be a little late, but we believe that the market has achieved less than five per cent saturation and that no other vendor offers the full range of systems management, database and performance management and security products that we do.?
The first nine products in the Provision family include the Performance Management suite, Autosys job management tool and Autosecure security offering.
These will initially support Windows NT and Unix, but MVS support is expected to follow at some indeterminate point in the future.
Another nine products or so, including Database Utility and Analyser, are expected to move into beta before the end of the year, but Platinum could provide no timescales for completing the integration of the other 60 or so products, 40 of which are DB2 utilities.
Each product ships with its own version of the Poems Director console, but can be hooked into third party consoles from Tivoli or Hewlett-Packard Openview, if required.
