Companies are bracing themselves for employees downing tools today as Big Brother goes live.
Last year Big Brother proved a hit with online office workers who logged on to find out what house contestants such as Nasty Nick were up to in an effort to be the last one voted out.
Big Brother is expecting to get up to a million hits for its live webcast on its first day, double the number it received last year.
"Some companies are organising net breaks for employees to log on in an attempt to manage access" said a spokeswoman for Freeserve, the UK ISP partnering Channel 4 for the webcast and community functionality on the site.
Nigel Hickson, head of ebusiness at the CBI, said: "It's one of those classic cases where most companies will come to an agreement with their employees, but if people get hooked it could prove a costly exercise."
A spokesperson for BT said: "A little bit of personal use isn't frowned on, but if employees are abusing the system, it becomes an issue for their line manager. We have restrictions for the types of sites that can be accessed."
The Big Brother house is wired for over 30 cameras that are live on the web. New this year is a 360 degree panning camera, which allows users to choose what they watch.
