The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) may launch an anti-trust investigation into Microsoft Corp if three Republican senators have their way. Concerned that a separate, ongoing investigation of Microsoft by the Department of Justice may not be as rigorous as hoped, they say competing manufacturers are worried that the 1994 antitrust settlement is not being enforced.
Computer Reseller News reports that the three senators wrote to Robert Pitofsky, chairman of the FTC, requesting another investigation of Microsoft?s activities. Microsoft, of course, has its own political lobbyists, and a further two senators sent a letter to their fellow politicos, requesting that Microsoft be left alone to carry on business as normal.
