Actual and virtual share traders are being catered for on the Web through products from Electronic Share Information (ESI) and European Business News (EBN).
For serious traders, real-time prices from the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) are being made available by ESI this month as a free service for its registered users and subscribers. This joins the FTSE 100 Index, which is already available.
ESIOption (www.esi.co.uk) allows users to choose whether to take the LIFFE prices as a live feed or as periodic snapshots of the market updated every 15 minutes. The price index is supported by educational material from LIFFE, along with information about books relating to the options market. Users can also make purchases through their browser using ESI's order form.
For those who want to take the financial risk out of buying and selling shares, EBN has devised the Dream Stocks fantasy share dealing game (www.ebn.co.uk). Each virtual investor is given $1 million to invest in 10 real blue chip company shares from UK, US and German markets.
Portfolios can be formulated from just one market or a mixture of all three countries. Players will receive full financial data on each of their shares, updated in real-time.
