Annual worldwide sales of Fibre Channel switch and host bus adapter equipment are expected to grow during the next five years, exceeding $3bn in revenues by 2008, analysts have predicted.
According to a five-year forecast report published by Dell'Oro Group, revenues from modular San switches are expected to more than double between 2004 and 2009.
"The modular segment of the San switch market will see robust growth as enterprises consolidate San fabrics, extend the geographic reach of Sans, and reduce elements in the network by utilising feature-rich, high-port density devices," said John Carvell, principal analyst for San research at Dell'Oro Group.
"This demand is coupled with strong customer acceptance of next-generation switching platforms, such as those introduced by Brocade, Cisco, CNT, and McData."
