Steve Garnett, Oracle's former vice president of marketing for EMEA, will start work at Siebel Systems as vice president of Europe in about three weeks.
He replaces Siebel's Bob Mann, who changed jobs to become European partners manager at the end of last year. The position has been caretakered by Craig Ramsey, vice president of field operations, ever since.
Garnett, who was contacted by Oracle US requesting him not to leave, said he was excited by the prospect of his new career, but had no hard feelings towards Oracle.
"My leaving is no reflection on Oracle, but I'd been there for 12 years and my motives were selfish. Siebel has the potential to be another Peoplesoft or Baan and I'll be running the business in Europe. I don't think I was being sidelined at Oracle though. It was my decision to go. [Pier Carlo] Falotti [head of Oracle Europe] wasn't pushing me out. It was just a great opportunity," he said.
Siebel has also poached another Oracle staff member to take up the newly created position of UK managing director. Neil Weston, former head of Oracle Australia, will move back to the UK in the next couple of weeks.
