Computer Associates has acquired privately-held Avalan Technology to add remote management software to its product portfolio.
Remotely Possible will be sold as an option to the software supplier?s Unicenter TNG systems management applications, its Paradigm helpdesk packages, and ArcServe and Inoculan LAN-based storage and network management products.
Jay Huff, CA?s UK marketing director, said: ?Until now, the remote control of desktop and servers was handled for us by third parties, but this acquisition is significant for us because it now means we can supply the software ourselves, although our relationships with our partners won?t be affected by it.?
He added that the product enabled support staff to dial in remotely to a site using the telephone, a modem or the Internet to look at any configuration problems with machines on the network. It also enables support to install new software, reboot systems and edit registers remotely.
No redundancies are expected.
