The deal settles a $14.5m lawsuit the news service filed in 2005. AFP at the time complained that Google's copying of headlines and photos in the Google News service infringed on its copyrights. The agency claimed that despite several repeated requests for removal from AFP, Google displayed its subscription-only content for free through its news service.
In addition to dropping the 2005 charges, the agreement will also allow Google to syndicate AFP's content.
AFP said that the content agreement would go beyond the headlines and photos that Google's news search service normally displays.
Monetary details were not disclosed.
