Forte plans to beta test the OS/390 release of its development environment by June, after suffering heavy criticism in the past for failing to support the mainframe.
Forte Open Mainframe Architecture (OMA) will run under Unix or Windows NT, but enable users to write XPG4-compliant packages that run under OS/390 Open Edition and access the DB2 database directly. A second beta release, due by September, will also include support for IBM?s IMS database and CICS transaction processing monitor.
OMA is scheduled to ship by the end of the year.
