Foundry Networks is slashing the cost of its Gigabit Ethernet FastIron Workgroup Switch by up to 20%. The price range for the edge switch now starts at #2,250 for a 16 port 10/100 Mbps system up to #4,700 for a 24 port 10/100 Mbps and two Gigabit ports. Bobby Johnson, Foundry's president and CEO, says that the cuts result from an upturn in business: "We are very pleased with the demand we are seeing for our products among enterprises and ISPs, especially for newer products like ServerIron (a server load balancing switch) and BigIron (a chassis-based switching router)." He also announced that the company now has 350 customers worldwide.
