A US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) report showed that Compaq's CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer earned over $70 million in share options and salary last year. That could change in 1998, however, given the profits warning the PC maker issued earlier this week. Pfeiffer's earnings far outstrip those of IBM's Lou Gerstner, who earns about $10 million a year.
