The $6.5 billion Italian tyre giant, Pirelli, is entering the India telecomms sector.
The company's cable and telecomms business now accounts for almost half its worldwide turnover and it plans an aggressive onslaught on the Indian market with its fibre optic cable and systems. Senior officials have visited a few local manufacturers' plants already, in the process of selecting a local partner. However, sources said that the company has not taken a final decision about its Indian partner.
