Novell has announced Groupwise 5.1, the upgrade to its groupware package plus unveiled Java and HTML 3.0 support for Groupwise Web Access client software.
Groupwise 5.1 now supports LDAP on the client as well as embedded URLs, and multi-user calendar printouts. LDAP support means customers can look up user information via any LDAP-compliant directory service.
Embedded URLs mean any URL included in the subject or message body of a Groupwise message is automatically detected and hyperlinked to the users? default browser.
The 5.1 upgrade will be available free to current 5.0 users by the end of Q1. Groupwise Web Access is an optional browser-based client software from which users can send and retrieve email, attachments and voice messages over the Internet.
Matt Cain, analyst at Meta Group said: ?Novell?s new version of Groupwise Web Access with Java applets and support for HTML puts it on a par with the traditional Groupwise desktop client.?
An open beta version will be available in March.
