Sales of content management software will hit $3bn in 2004, according to a new report.
Research company the Yankee Group believes the sector will grow at a compound rate of 35 per cent year on year, as adoption of the software spreads outside the media industry. It stated that some $900m worth of content management software was sold in 2000.
The report argues that companies will generally adopt the software to free up technicians from content management duties and to better connect content creators and technicians as firms look to integrate the internet into their business strategy.
Rob Perry, senior analyst at the Yankee Group, commented: "The increasing integration of the internet into the business of all companies has placed great burdens on the technical staff responsible for websites."
"Leading technology companies are using content management systems to spread this responsibility across teams that can now create better websites more quickly and cost effectively," he added.
As well as co-ordinating resources, Perry argues that the tools also allow the categorisation and classification of personalisation tools to match users and content.
"The growth in the sales of content management systems is proof that companies recognise that effective content management is a critical part of the development and ongoing management of internet applications," he said.
