What is it: flow-charting and process-analysis tool.
Applications: auditing, business process charting and re-engineering.
Companies are continually re-engineering business systems by using flow-charting and high-end process analysis tools. Process Charter combines these tools to make such tasks easier.
The package includes a tool to create high-quality flow charts, as well as powerful process analysis and simulation features. You can view the results in both a graphical form and as a spreadsheet.
If you only require flow charting, Corel Flow 3 would be a more appropriate package as it provides specialist graphical charting tools. Process Charter is specifically aimed at analysing business processes, and it does this by means of a simple four-step plan.
The first stage involves creating a process structure in the comprehensive flow-charting window. You assign attributes to components and map the process by linking the components with arrows. The design process is flexible and easy to use. You are not constrained by pre-defined styles and you can create as many figures or arrows as you like.
The second step is to define the res-ources available to the business process, such as people and materials. They are defined under the resources tab on the spreadsheet window, and are associated with activities in order to model the process. The values entered determine factors such as the cost and the overall duration of activities in the process model simulation.
In the third phase you assign resources, combining step one with step two. You define the characteristics of each activity and sub-activity created in the first step and apply them to the resources produced in the second stage.
The final step involves running the process simulation, which allows results to be shown in a graphical and statistical form.
If you follow the logical four-step plan, Process Charter is intuitive and clear. There are tutorials and sample files to help first-time users. With the Master Page feature, you can set up templates, and global items, such as headers, footers and background graphics can be defined.
There is a Style palette which defines line and text styles and allows you to add customised graphics. Graphics are displayed as icons on the palette which can be selected and dropped into the flow chart, so you don?t need to repeatedly cut and paste.
