Inktomi has announced that AOL?s ICQ mail service will join Yahoo, MSN, Cnet, Disney and Hotbot in using its search engine technology.
A new version of the a free Internet based instant messaging software is currently being tested and is expected to contain certain ?portal? style features (see Newswire 16 November).
Inktomi?s search technology will be integrated into ICQ?s main client menu, allowing ICQ members to conduct customised searches with just one click from a desktop icon.
The maker of ICQ, Mirabilis Software, was bought by AOL in June this year for $287 million.
