One of the original line-up of the team which performed the management buyout at Bytech has left the company after a bitter clash with MD Ken Moss.
Alan Pope, former sales director at Bytech, left the company in the past 10 days. Moss refused to comment on the move but we understand the company has found a replacement for the sales role, who started last Monday.
The four original members of the buy-out team were Pope, Moss, marketing director Andrew Cloney and financial controller Mike Gallagher. The team formed Bytech Systems at the beginning of the year after a decision by its parent Eurodis Electron to divest non-core businesses. The buy-out team bought themselves out for an undisclosed sum.
At that time Moss claimed Bytech would grow the business by 100 per cent to #26 million in the financial year 1995-1996 (PC Dealer, January 10). Its financial results are out in February.
The company distributes a number of products including IBM RS kit and some software, and Intel servers. It also still distributes ALR machines, although that relationship has gone through peaks and troughs over the last year.
An insider at Bytech said: "I think Alan was of the old school and the task in hand with IBM calls for different approaches. Ken Moss has always been a leader from the front. He?s the dynamite at Bytech. He?s a very direct kind of guy."
He said the two individuals did not see eye-to-eye over a number of interests. "Ken has a mind of his own and [Andrew] Cloney can sit quite easily with that."
Jane Tabor, channels manager at the RS division of IBM, said that while she could not comment on the personalities at Bytech, it was an important business partner.
"They are one of our most important partners and show great commitment for us," she said. "Bytech continues to do very good business for us."
