Rumours were circulating today that hard-pressed Japanese company Softbank is set to spin off its memory subsidiary, Kingston as a separate entity.
Sources said the fall in memory prices was putting pressure on the Japanese major.
The company also owns the Comdex exhibitions group of companies and at the US Comdex/Fall show last month said it was merging Comdex and its IT publishing arm, Ziff-Davis, at some embarrassment to the latter's journalists.
None of the parties above would comment on the rumour, buit a source at a memory distributor said he believed the move would happen, possibly as early as next week.
